although there are no railways on Skye itself, it is possible to
travel as far as Kyle of Lochalsh by train from Inverness. From Kyle of
Lochalsh, there are regular bus services to Portree. There are also
regular bus services to Kyle and Portree from many parts of mainland

This is a new passenger ferry service operating daily from
Gairloch to Portree. The service is scheduled to start in May/June 2004.
It's called "6° West" because the mid-point of the
crossing coincides with the 6° west line of longitude.

on BBC television. You will pass this castle on your approach to Kyle of

in the south of Skye; home to
West Highland Heavy Horses.
The castle is open to visitors.
- Dunvegan Castle
- the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod, still in use today. The
castle is open to visitors all year round - opening times are shown on the
website.

Duntulm Castle
- the ruins of Duntulm Castle stand right at the top of the
Trotternish peninsula. This was a stronghold of the Clan MacDonald and was abandoned by the
clan around 1730.
